Some of the ways we fulfill our mission

First and foremost is our dedicated staff of community and  neighborhood organizers, youth development workers, support staff and interns who join forces every day with the people of Northern Berkshire to help build a better community. We are also fortunate to have the guidance and support of a wonderful Board of Directors.

Our Monthly Forums, where since 1986 an average of 60 neighborhood leaders and representatives of community agencies have gathered to explore topics that are vital to community life. Just a  few of the projects that have grown out of those conversations are the Family Life Support Center & Louison House, the Transportation Association of Northern Berkshire,  the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day Celebration, and Ecu-Health Care.
The Coalition News is published 10 times each year and distributed to 600 households and offices by mail and electronically to another 900. Click here to view past issues from our archives.
Since 1993, Northern Berkshire Neighbors has been strengthening our communal life by developing community leadership, neighborhood by neighborhood.
Our youth development program, UNITY, is creating North County's next generation of leaders by empowering  teenagers to tackle some of the challenges facing our communities.
Through our CommUNITY Arts Programs we help the Northern Berkshires' next generation develop as individuals, as artists, and as committed community members. Typical programs include the Teen Writers Workshop, the teen-led substance-free concert series Grooove Cafe, the Sculpture Garden at Natural Bridge State Park, and more.
Special events throughout the year -- Neigborhood EXPO, National Night Out Against Crime, and the twice-yearly Community Recognition Awards, to name a few  -- bring people together to learn about our various cultures and to recognize our neighbors for their community-building deeds performed every day.
Through Communities Mobilizing for Change on Alcohol, the Coalition helps local activists to keep our young people healthy by preventing underage drinking. You can check out our two television commercials here.
As a mentor and incubator, the Coalition puts its years of experience to work supporting other groups -- the Northern Berkshire Youth Collaborative, the Pittsfield Prevention Partnership, and the new countywide Berkshire Youth Development Project -- as they take up the challenge of building a better future for our communities.
