Downtown BikeAround

Thursdays in August 6:00p.m.

Meet at the St. Anthony’s Parking Lot, North Adams

Join the Northern Berkshire Community Coalition for weekly community rides. Bring your bike and helmet and ride around downtown. National Night Out

Tuesday, August 6

North Adams from 4:00-8:00 pm at Noel Field in North Adams.

Williamstown from 5:00-7:00 pm at the new Police Station located at 825 Simonds Rd. in Williamstown

The purpose of National Night Out is to build camaraderie between the community and city/emergency personnel and promote partnerships between them to create a safer neighborhood. North Adams Tree Tour Walk & Talk

Meet at 61 Main St., North Adams

Trekking Pole Demo and Guided Walks in Adams

Mondays, August 12, August 26, September 9 and September 16

9 – 11am

Various locations in Adams

Learn how to use trekking poles and experience taking guided walks using the trekking poles. Matter of Balance components will be incorporated. This a free program and trekking poles will be provided. There is limited space, please call the Adams Council on Aging to register at 413-743-8333 or Bret at (413) 663-7588.

 

nbCC’s Back-Packed for Success for Florida and Savoy families

Tuesday, August 13

6:00-7:30pm

Gabriel Abbott Memorial School, 56 North County Road, Florida Mountain.

This event is offered to all families with children entering grades K-12. Each child will receive a free backpack filled with school supplies. Pre-registration is required. Call nbCC’s The Family Place at (413) 663-7588 between July 29 and August 9 to register.

 

BikeFest 2019 at the Downtown Celebration

Wednesday, August 14

5:30-8:30 pm

Bring your bicycles and helmets and pedal around Holden Street. There will be bike give-aways, a bike rodeo, bicycle education and safety information and free basic bicycle maintenance provided by local bike mechanics. Join the fun on your bike!

Starry Night Movies at UNO Park

Friday, August 16

6:00p.m.

UNO Park, North Adams

Come see the critically acclaimed movie Hidden Figures at the UNO Park! The movie starts at 8, but the festivities start at 6. Bring a picnic, or get some good eats from the food truck from Trés Niños. Pillows, blankets and low-backed chairs are welcome as well! Free popcorn will be provided from our friends at Empire Cafe. Beat Back to School Stress

This parent education workshop will help you learn ways to identify specific stressors caused by transitioning back to school, understand simple coping skills for both you and your child, and establish and manage routines, especially for sleep and meals. Wow Workshop: Reducing Waste in the Washroom

UNO Community Center, 157 River St North Adams.

Mary Stucklen of Berkshire Zero Waste Initiative will be leading her 5th in a series of 6 workshops on reducing waste at home.  This workshop focuses on reducing waste in the bathroom using shampoo, lotion, and dental cleaner alternatives, buying sustainable toilet paper, as well as water-conservation practices.  For more information, contact Bret Beattie at (413) 663-7588 or bbeattie@nbccoaltion.org.

Bike to the Murals Community Ride during Downstreet Art

Thursday, August 29

6pm

Check out the many murals of North Adams by bike. Meet in the St. Anthony's Municipal Parking lot at 5:45, ride will leave at 6:00pm. This ride will range from 5-7miles. Summer Playground Program

Monday – Friday through August 16, Monday to Friday 9am to 12pm

UNO Community Center, 157 River St., North Adams

The UNO Summer Playground Program is a drop in style program for youth. Staff are on site to encourage recreational play among UNO and Houghton Park attendees. This year, a free lunch will be provided by the North Adams Public Schools USDA Summer Food Service Program to any youth (under the age of 18). Beacon Recovery Community Center Open Hours

Tuesdays from 5-7:00pm

Wednesdays  from 10am – 2:00pm

The Beacon Recovery Community Center is a new program of Northern Berkshire Community Coalition (nbCC) to provide peer support to those seeking recovery from addiction. BRCC is a peer led effort that provides support groups, connections to networks that can assist anyone seeking recovery, and opportunities to socialize with others. Northern Berkshire Bocce League

Gardening Program at the UNO Community Center Gardens

Saturday mornings at 10am

There is an exciting new development at the UNO Gardens! nbCC is offering a community gardening program with local green thumb extraordinaire Jen Muñoz! The group convenes first at the River Street gardens across from The Porches at 9am. Then they move down the street to the UNO gardens at 10. After School Program

4-H Wacky STEAMsters Club

August 6 and 20

4 - 5:30pm

UNO Community Center, 157 River St

The 4-H Wacky STEAMsters are a fun filled STEAM group (ages 5-18). We tackle it all! From physics, to beadmaking, to breaking down scientific principles with fun, user-friendly, hands-on experiments. We meet through the summer months; this year’s focus will be on river maintenance and hiking! We are also planning two group field trips... at no charge! Healthy snacks provided. Parents are welcomed and encouraged! No drop off hours available. Option to register as an official member of 4-H and participate in other local groups and events.
