Trekking Pole Demo and Guided Walks in Adams

Mondays, September 9 and September 16

9 to 11am

Various locations in Adams

Learn how to use trekking poles and experience taking guided walks using the trekking poles. Matter of Balance components will be incorporated. This is a free program and trekking poles will be provided. There is limited space, please call the Adams Council on Aging to register at (413) 743-8333 or Bret at (413) 663-7588.

 

Homework Help Workshop

Tuesday, September 10

4 to 5pm

nbCC, 61 Main St., North Adams

Learn tips to stay calm and collected when homework gets stressful; Establish and manage routines for homework; Understand online and other helpful resources; Support your child using compassionate accountability. Downtown Bike Around

nbCC’s Annual Community Assessment Forum

Friday, September 13

10 to noon

The Green, 85 Main Street, North Adams

Share your observations about needs and assets (ongoing and emerging) in Northern Berkshire to help set the Coalition’s agenda for this coming year. Engage in conversations with your neighbors and friends about making the Northern Berkshire community a healthier place to live! The first half of the forum will be devoted to introductions and announcements and please bring your flyers for distribution. For more information, contact Amber Besaw at nbCC at (413) 663-7588. Please bring a healthy non-perishable food item with you to the forum to benefit our local food pantry, The Al Nelson Friendship Center.

 

Origami Bookmarks, Family Arts and Crafts

Wow Workshop: Reducing Waste in Your Life

Mary Stucklen of Berkshire Zero Waste Initiative will be leading the last in a series of 6 workshops on reducing waste throughout life by practicing smart buying practices; cotton vs. polyester, used vs. new, need vs. want, sharing vs. sole ownership, and more. Building Relationships Workshop

Build a positive relationship with your child. Learn tips to hold family meetings where your child has a voice in rules and decisions, establish meaningful traditions within your family and create predictable family routines. Voices For Recovery 2019 - Together We Are Stronger

A family friendly community event to remember those we have lost from substance misuse, raise awareness to reduce stigma, and offer hope for recovery. Ethical Considerations for Recovery Coaches

A 3-day intensive training focusing on the ethical issues that can arise when providing recovery coach services.  Learn what Ethics are and why they are so important when providing Recovery Coach Services. Food Adventures

Monday, September 30

UNO Community Center Gardens, 157 River St., North Adams

$25/class, or $60 for 3 classes

Food Adventures is a class for those interested in learning how to prepare and cook delicious, healthy meals for yourself and others. Taught by representatives from The Nutrition Center, this insightful class will teach you food preparation, safety and storage, as well as the benefits of eating seasonally available foods. For just $25 per class, or $60 for all 3, each participant will learn to make and sample tasty seasonal meals. Please inform us of any food allergies and/or dietary restrictions you may have. Gardening Program

Saturday mornings at 10am

UNO Community Center Gardens, 157 River St., North Adams

This community gardening program is led by local green thumb extraordinaire, Jen Muñoz! The group convenes first at the River Street gardens across from The Porches at 9am. Then they move down the street to the UNO gardens at 10. This is a program for all ages and levels of gardeners; stop by on Saturday mornings to learn more! After School Program

Tuesdays 6:30 - 7:30, Thursdays 4 – 5

UNO Open Hours

Wednesdays and Thursdays, 9am - 12pm, Fridays 12pm - 4pm

Come to the UNO Community Center to meet members of our Steering Committee, learn about our programs and events, and get to know your neighbors. 4-H Wacky STEAMsters Club

September 3rd and 17th, 4 - 5:30pm

UNO Community Center, 157 River St., North Adams

The 4-H Wacky STEAMsters are a fun filled STEAM group (ages 5-18) that tackles physics, to beadmaking, to breaking down scientific principles with fun, user-friendly, hands-on experiments. This year’s focus will be on river maintenance and hiking! Healthy snacks provided. Parents are welcomed and encouraged! No drop off hours available. The Nutrition Center

Pedal and Wrench NA Bike Collective

First Monday of every month

5:00-7:00pm

The Armory, 206 Ashland St., North Adams (look for the garage doors in the back)

Bring your own bike or work on a bike at the bike collective. You’ll have the opportunity to learn from other community members on basic bike fixes, or team up with more experienced bike mechanics to rebuild a bike. Tools and stands are provided. Grandparents Raising Grandchildren
